  small business needs |
When
talking to small business owners and operators, we have found that they
have the same kinds of needs as large businesses, only on a smaller scale.
Many small businesses would like their presence in the market place
known and their products to be available throughout the world. Today,
that is possible by purchasing a domain name
and creating a Web Site on the Internet.
However, the process, procedures and pitfalls are not clearly defined
and there are few companies or individuals available to assist small businesses.
We specialize in helping small businesses get started
with their web site.
Once
a business is successful and growing, there comes a need to protect it from
destruction during a disaster. As a Certified Business Continuity
Planner, I can assist small businesses with a Web Site design, Web Hosting
and when the time comes, Small Business Continuity Planning. Click
on Small Business Continuity link above for details. - Dee Halbrook,

The
web site should describe
your business and your products. You should position your most impressive
products toward the top of the web site. This draws the visitor's attention
as soon as the site loads. You may want prospective customers to be able
to purchase products over the Internet. A web designer will first
sketch each page and after approval, start the coding. See a some
samples of our clients' web site home pages in the sidebar to the left.
There are many
features that we can design into a web site. One of our client's home
page contains links to forms that can be completed on-line, video clips
and links to the agent's insurance suppliers.
We have a lot of tools in our toolbox to build
your web site. Here, we will share with you some of the important parts
of a web site and some of the tools we have to build that site. If
you have special requirements, we can code up a special feature to satisfy
your need.
Header or Masthead
The
masthead or header is usually at the top of the every page. The home
page is the first page that every visitor sees and it contains a header
with the name of the web site (domain name) along with other things such
as your company logo, other affiliations that you have and possibly a visitor
counter.
NavLinks
or Navigation Links
Each
page will contain Navigation Links to allow a visitor to move around the
site. There are several types of NavLinks listed here.
- NavBar
- NaveButtons
- NavTab
- NavImages
The first image below shows a NavBar. A visitor
would click on the links on the bar to visit other pages on the site.
The figure below shows several NavButtons. A
visitor would click on one of the buttons to visit the page denoted on the
button.
 |
NavLinks
can also be imbedded in the text. An example of this is
when writing about people, places, or things; a link can be established
to a place on the Internet that has additional information on that
subject. There are many other options that can be developed
for navigation links. |
Content
The main body of a web page is called the content
and usually contains a few words describing the web site or the products.
The Home Page is the first page to load. From that point the
visitor can jump to other pages on the web site from the home page.
The home page introduces the visitor to the site.
Footer
The
Footer usually ends each page and contains the businesses contact information.
It may also contain another set of NavLinks to allow the visitor
to leave the bottom of this page and visit another page on the web site.
Special Software
If
your site requires some special features, we can write those special features
as a module and include those in your site. Several special feature
modules that have already been written that can be placed on your site
are:
- Bulletin board code that allows updates on the
fly
- Add-to-cart and view-shopping-cart software
- Side bar (shown on the left)
- Video and audio players
- JavaScript modules for many features
- Flash modules
- Many other modules
We can help you build your Web Site and assist with your Site Hosting. We
will work hand in hand with you to create a Web Site that will make your
products or services stand out from all the rest. We have clients
from all across the U.S. and all types of businesses.

a
variety of other insurance companies.

Once
the web site is designed, the code (software) that runs the web site written,
it must be loaded on a computer (server) that is permanently attached to
the Internet. Typically, you purchase this service (hosting of your
web site) from a vendor that has a server on the Internet in a controlled
environment (24x7 air conditioning and continuous electrical power). You
will pay a fixed price by the month. We have our own server on the Internet
and can provide you with that service for a monthly rate. Our rates for
this service are very comparable to all other hosting vendors on the Internet.
We
can maintain your web site for you and post your changes. We guarantee 48
hour posting from the time we receive your change or you can schedule it
at predetermined time. Maintenance is also billed by the month. Our
maintenance plan includes five (5) minor changes per month. A minor change
is a picture change, product addition or wording changes. Adding complete
pages to the site is not included in the monthly maintenance charge.
